Maccheroni Cucina Italiana is a cosy Italian restaurant in Milan’s charming Porta Venezia neighbourhood. Known for serving Milan’s N°1 Carbonara, this spot was a must-visit for me, and it certainly lived up to its reputation!
In the Maccheroni kitchens, they adhere strictly to the original carbonara recipe, a tradition passed down by Roman housewives for nearly 100 years. Their version uses short pasta, fresh egg yolks whipped to order, a grind of pepper, thickly cut crispy bacon, and a generous handful of pecorino romano.
I tried the renowned carbonara, available in two options: the “light” and the “reinforced”. Both versions were exceptional, showcasing the authentic flavours of this classic dish.

Fun fact
At Maccheroni, a full pan of pasta carbonara is brought directly to your table. The staff serves the first portion themselves and finishes preparing it right there in front of you. After that, you can help yourself to the next portion. I found this to be a nice touch that enhances the overall dining experience.
