Café Canelé is a small coffee bar and patisserie specialising in freshly baked canelés. A traditional pastry from the Bordeaux region with a caramelised crust and soft, custard-like centre. The concept was founded by Ellen Bultinck, who perfected her take on the classic French treat and now offers several daily variations alongside quality coffee and tea, creating a simple yet distinctive café experience in the city. Canelés are available to enjoy in-house or to take away, and the venue also caters to coffee breaks and relaxed mornings with indoor seating and a sunny terrace.
The focus at Café Canelé remains on fresh baking and quality ingredients, with the owner drawing inspiration from Bordeaux canelé traditions and seasonal creativity. Alongside the signature pastries, guests can pair their sweet treats with brewed coffee or other warm beverages, making the spot a go-to for a coffee-and-bake break rather than a full meal destination.

Em’s star rating
This small coffee bar makes the classic French canelé the star of the show, and it pairs amazingly with a well-brewed cup of coffee. I also stop by regularly for a coffee to go during my walks around the city.
Fun fact
Café Canelé specialises in canelés, a traditional French pastry from Bordeaux that has a caramelised crust and soft, custardy centre, and the owner perfected her versions with daily fresh bakes in several flavours, making this one of the few places in Antwerp to find authentic canelés made on site.
