Bicho Malo is a vibrant Mexican restaurant in the heart of Gent. Since its opening, it has become one of the city’s go-to spots for bold Mexican flavours with a refined twist. The restaurant was founded by chef William Verhaeghe, food photographer Nicolas Legein, and entrepreneur Willem Deketelaere, combining culinary expertise with creative flair.
Inside, the atmosphere is intimate and moody, with dark interiors, textured walls, and neon accents creating a setting that feels both cosy and edgy. The overall vibe encourages lively evenings with friends over good food and drinks.

The seafood tostadas with avocado cream were fresh and well-balanced, and the marinated pork rib was tender and full of flavour, with the pineapple, chilli, and red onion adding a perfect contrast. Definitely worth a visit.
Fun Fact
The name Bicho Malo literally means “slecht beest” in Spanish and comes from the expression “bicho malo nunca muere”, which translates to “a bad bug never dies,” or more loosely, “you can’t keep a bad thing down.” It’s a playful nod to the restaurant’s rebellious, rock-and-roll-inspired interior and vibe, with dark walls, neon lights, and an atmosphere that’s as bold as the food.
