Bar Chapel is a seasonal bar concept in Antwerp-Noord, set inside a renovated former chapel with an adjoining monastery garden. The idea is simple but distinctive: create a laid-back meeting place where people come together for drinks, street food and long summer evenings in an unusual setting. The venue, founded by Sanne Van Riel and later co-run with Ali, combines the historic architecture of the chapel with a relaxed, almost holiday-like atmosphere.
What makes Bar Chapel stand out is its open, ever-changing food concept and social vibe. Instead of a fixed kitchen, the bar collaborates with different caterers each week, offering a rotating mix of street food, from pizza and tacos to international specialities, alongside cocktails, wine and beer.

Bar Chapel is one of those places that just feels different. Sitting in a garden next to an old chapel with a drink in hand is hard to beat. The vibe is relaxed, a bit hidden, and perfect on a warm evening. I went for a drink and stayed way longer than planned.
Fun fact
Bar Chapel is only open during the warmer months. It’s a true seasonal spot, so when it opens each spring again, it feels a bit like a small Antwerp tradition coming back to life.
